Kemar Roofe has returned from injury ahead of Leeds clash against Preston.
Paul Heckingbottom has chopped and changed between strikers Caleb Ekuban and Pierre-Michel Lasogga of late, but Kemar Roofe’s impressive record against Preston should see him start for Leeds United on Tuesday night.
The Whites go up against Preston at Deepdale as the pressure continues to intensify on the former Barnsley manager’s shoulders, after just two wins in 11 league games since taking over.
A disappointing draw against 23rd-placed Sunderland on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road will have felt like a defeat to fans, as their chances of achieving a place in the Championship’s top-six places are all but over.
With just four wins in 21 games against clubs in the top half of the Championship, Leeds will be looking to improve on such a dismal record as they take on Alex Neil’s side – who sit in a healthy 11th place and are still within touching distance of the play-offs.
But what should be easy for Heckingbottom, come Tuesday evening, will be who to start up front. Roofe’s record against the Lilywhites should see him eclipse Ekuban and Lasogga and lead the Leeds line.
In his last three appearances against Preston, Roofe – who earns £6,000 a week at Leeds according to the Daily Star – has scored two goals and laid on two assists for the Whites and that record alone should be enough to see him start up front.
Roofe remains Leeds’ top scorer with 12 strikes this season, two more than Lasogga including a hat-trick against QPR earlier in the season. Now, the attacker has recovered from injury and simply has to start.
