Speaking in his pre-match press conference, David Moyes has been discussing Declan Rice’s future once again.

Another transfer window has come around and more speculation about Rice has come to the surface.

The midfielder is, once again, a wanted man heading into January with both Liverpool and Chelsea linked with his signature in recent weeks.

Rice has made no secret of his desire to play in the Champions League, and with West Ham off the boil this season, a transfer at this point would probably make a lot of sense personally.

However, according to Moyes, there is absolutely no way that Rice leaves in the January transfer window, stating that it is an impossibility for the England international to depart the London Stadium.

Rice isn’t leaving

Moyes gave a very blunt answer when asked about Rice’s future at the football club.

“There’ll be no chance Declan Rice leaves in this window, no way. Impossible,” Moyes said.

Summer move on

Rice may not be leaving West Ham in January, but now more than ever a summer move feels inevitable.

The midfielder has made it clear that he wants to be playing at the top level, and West Ham, quite simply, aren’t in a position to make that happen for him.

The Hammers have been woeful this season, a relegation battle now looks more likely than a European push, and a player like Rice isn’t going to stick around in a team that isn’t challenging at the top-end of the Premier League table.

West Ham, of course, don’t want to lose Rice next month as the threat of relegation looms large, but it may be impossible to keep hold of him in the summer.
