Speaking on his YouTube channel, Charles Watts has been discussing the plans to erect a statue of Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
The French manager is undoubtedly Arsenal’s greatest legend, and according to the Telegraph, there are plans to cast him in bronze in 2023 outside of the Emirates Stadium.
Five years on from his departure from Arsenal, this feels rather overdue, but according to Watts, it was impossible to get this done at an earlier date due to Wenger’s frosty relationship with the club after leaving.

Wenger statue was impossible
The journalist shared what he knows about these plans.
“An Arsene Wenger statue is potentially going up as soon as next year. That’s no surprise because Arsenal have wanted to do that for a fair while now, but it’s been very difficult, impossible because Wenger hasn’t felt comfortable enough to be back around the place and at the Emirates,” Watts said.
“It seems there’s been a thawing in that difficult relationship Arsenal have had with Wenger and certain people at Arsenal since his dismissal. That relationship seems to be in the process of being fixed with the fact he was comfortable enough to be at the West Ham game, it wouldn’t surprise me if this statue happens pretty soon.”
Sort it out
Arsenal and Wenger seem to be on better terms now, but they need to sort this statue out sooner rather than later.
The Frenchman may be the most deserving figure in the club’s history for this sort of tribute, and it would be a massive shame if the two parties couldn’t put their differences aside for the fans.
Arsenal supporters love Wenger, and he should be permanently immortalised in statue form at the club after his two-decade long stint as manager.
