Barnsley have agreed a fee with Partick Thistle for defender Liam Lindsay, which should encourage suitors of Marc Roberts.

Barnsley are on the verge of signing defender Liam Lindsay from Partick Thistle, with the Yorkshire Post claiming a fee in the region of £350,000 has been agreed by the two clubs.
Lindsay enjoyed a fine season for the Scottish Premiership side and helped the club finish in the top six of the division. He made his debut in 2013 after coming through the Thistle youth ranks.
The 21-year-old made 42 appearances and notched up seven goals in all competitions.
The centre-back has gained a number of plaudits in Scotland and his move to England’s second tier of football will come of no great surprise.
Whilst the signing of Lindsay can be seen simply as Paul Heckingbottom bolstering his defensive options, it could be the club’s solution to the potential departure of Marc Roberts.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a potential move away from Oakwell. Aston Villa have been strongly linked with a move for the highly-rated defender, with a £5 million bid being lined up according to the Star.

Talk on Roberts’ future has dwindled in recent weeks but the arrival of Lindsay has the potential to reignite interest. Like Roberts, Lindsay is a strong and powerful centre-half with an uncompromising approach to defending.
If Roberts was to leave Oakwell then Lindsay will be a ready-made replacement. It may be considered the perfect time to move him on whilst his stock is high and interest is rife.
Barnsley have already lost Marley Watkins and Josh Scowen this summer, the funds raised by the sale of Roberts will give the club the opportunity to invest in replacements as the they bid to improve on last season’s 14th place finish.
