Recent Leeds departures have not fared well in their first seasons.

Jack Clarke of Leeds United

Tottenham are close to wrapping up a deal for Leeds United winger Jack Clarke.

The Guardian report the total cost will be £11.5 million.

Clarke must buck a trend at Spurs, with recent high profile Leeds departures all failing to adapt instantly on their Premier League moves.

Lewis Cook, sold to Bournemouth in 2016, was touted as a future England captain and left Leeds for just £6 million.

He failed to establish himself in the team, struggled with injury and made only four starts in his first season at the club.

Charlie Taylor quit Leeds for Burnley, and while he came good last year, in his first season at Turf Moor he managed only 10 starts.

Sam Byram has also found it tough going at West Ham, and has been back on loan in the Championship.

Chris Wood, sold for £15 million, has also struggled to live up to that price tag. He’s done alright, but his 27 goals in the Championship became just 10 in his first season in the top flight.

Last season Leeds cashed in on Ronaldo Vieira. He made only six Serie A starts.

At Tottenham, Clarke will find it tough. He only made four starts for Leeds last season.

The struggles of his Leeds predecessors outside Elland Road suggests there is a tough adjustment from Championship to top flight football.

Clarke has his work cut out and must buck a trend if he is going to be an instant hit at Tottenham.
