Steven Gerrard has been holding his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Brentford on Sunday.
Interestingly, the 41-year-old revealed that one player will be leaving Villa Park soon with the January transfer window set to open tomorrow.
What’s the story?
Well, Gerrard said that a loan exit for Keinan Davis is “imminent” with the 23-year-old set for a taste of regular first-team football.
As quoted by Birmingham Live, the ex-Rangers boss said: “Keinan Davis is imminent to go out and play some football, which he needs from a personal point of view. I think that will be good for him and it will be good for us.”
So far this season, Davis has played just 11 minutes of Premier League football, which all came in a 1-0 defeat to Southampton – it just so happened to be Dean Smith’s final game in charge.
The Aston Villa No.39 finds himself behind Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins in the pecking order, two players he is unlikely to leapfrog, in truth.
It comes after Davis made just one Premier League start last season.
Aston Villa should look to sell Keinan Davis
In the nicest way possible, it seems unlikely that Davis will make it in the first-team at Villa Park.
In 34 Premier League appearances, the Villans Academy graduate has scored just one goal, which simply isn’t good enough.
If we were him, we’d actively push for a permanent move to the Championship, as it seems the Premier League is a step above where Davis needs to be right now.
He can no longer be considered a youngster learning his trade at 23.
At that age, Davis must be playing regular first-team football, which he simply won’t get if he stays at Aston Villa.
Hopefully, he can find success away from the Midlands, and truly kickstart his career in senior football.
