Leeds United are closing on on Paul Heckingbottom, and his recent comments on recruitment will be good for Victor Orta.
Leeds United are on the verge of appointing Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom as manager as a replacement for Thomas Christiansen.
BBC Sport report Heckingbottom will be appointed imminently once personal terms are agreed.
One of the most controversial decisions at Leeds over the past year taken by owner Andrea Radrizzani was the appointment of sporting director Victor Orta.
He arrived with a patchy record from Middlesbrough and the success rate of his current signings at Leeds has been very hit and miss.
Heckingbottom however is in favour of having a recruitment chief taking the pressure off him.
He told the Star last month that he would welcome such a facilitator.
He said: “We’ve got to have someone better than me doing it. Sometimes I wonder whether my time is better spent doing other things.
“You should constantly be getting better. We think we’ve been brilliant at recruitment and we’ve signed some really good players, but I know, 100 per cent, that we need to be better.
“We’ve got to be better. It’s hard when you know that you’re responsible for the team and you’re only seeing little video clips of players.”
These comments are likely just what Victor Orta would have wanted to hear from a potential manager, rather than a confrontational figure who will attempt to wrestle power from him.
Whether this is good news for Leeds United is another matter, as many fans would like to see the back of Orta, but for the foreseeable future it appears he is here to stay.
