Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Fabrizio Romano revealed that Real Madrid had signed Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.

What’s the story?

Well, it was 90min who recently claimed that Liverpool were hoping to hold talks with Rennes over a potential deal for the 18-year-old.

However, as Romano tweeted, Carlo Ancelotti is now closing in on a €31m (£26.6m) move to bring the French prodigy to the Santiago Bernabeu.

In that respect, Liverpool have sadly missed out on a midfielder who could easily go on to become one of Europe’s best.

Lineker certainly agrees with that sentiment, describing Camavinga as one of the biggest bargains seen this summer.

You can see the BBC Match of the Day host’s tweet in full below.

Why didn’t Liverpool push for Eduardo Camavinga?

For just £26.6m, we can’t understand why Liverpool didn’t get involved.

Jürgen Klopp lost Gini Wijnaldum to Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the summer, so there was a gap in his squad for a midfielder.

Additionally, James Milner isn’t getting any younger at 35, so another midfield addition would’ve been wise.

In Camavinga, Real Madrid have a wonderkid who could quite easily play in their midfield for the next decade.

According to RMC Sport, Rennes were asking for €100m (£85.8m) earlier this year, so Lineker is right – Real Madrid have found a fantastic bargain.

Having only signed Ibrahima Konate for £36m, you’d expect a club of Liverpool’s stature would be able to afford Camavinga.

Who knows? Perhaps Michael Edwards tried, but was outdone by the pulling power of Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying that Liverpool have missed out on what is arguably the opportunity of the market in Camavinga.
