Former Aston Villa keeper Mark Bosnich has suggested that the Midlands side should approach Steven Gerrard after the sacking of Dean Smith.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Australian pundit believes that the Rangers boss could be a good option to replace Smith. The 50-year-old coach left the club over the weekend following a fifth straight Premier League loss.
Villa sit just two points above the relegation zone following a summer that saw the Birmingham club make three huge signings after the departure of Jack Grealish. And now, the club face the task of replacing Smith.
As per the Telegraph, Gerrard is being considered by the club, alongside Ralph Hasenhuttl. And according to Bosnich, the 41-year-old Rangers boss could be ideal to take over from Smith at Villa.
The former Premier League keeper said: “Steven Gerrard would be a fantastic choice. He broke up the dominance of Celtic and brought Rangers their first title in years.”
Bosnich added: “He was a fantastic player, and by all accounts he’s an excellent manager as well. He would immediately have the respect of the dressing room because of his kudos as a player.”
Gerrard could be perfect to lead Villa project

The former Liverpool captain has long been touted with a move to the Premier League following his success with Rangers. However, Villa could be the perfect club for Gerrard to take the next step of his managerial career.
The ex-England international will be well supported by the club’s board and owners. And Villa fans will be both open and excited to have as big a character in the English game in Gerrard taking over from Smith.
