Steven Gerrard has lavished praise on the ‘immaculate’ Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The Reds captain is likely to start in midfield tonight as the Three Lions take on France in a World Cup quarter-final.

Henderson, a £20 million signing by Liverpool in 2011 [Eurosport], didn’t start the competition as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s starting lineup.

But after an all-action display against Senegal last week, including scoring the opening goal, the 32-year-old is very much now an indispensable member of the first XI.

Henderson is getting older and therefore that comes with questions as to whether he can still be effective.

And the Liverpool icon is delighted to see his former teammate shut people up with his on-the-field displays.

He told Liverpool’s website: “Obviously being an England fan I’m following England and Jordan from a personal point of view. I think he’s been immaculate, both on and off the pitch. His last performance he was obviously Man of the Match, very well deserved, and he shut a few critics up that for some reason seem to point fingers at Jordan.”

All credit to Henderson.

He has had to get himself into a dog fight to earn a regular starting spot in the Three Lions XI and that determination will serve his teammates well.

Despite his advancing years, the Liverpool skipper remains an absolute leader and with England boasting so many young players, Henderson is certainly something of a babysitter for the likes of Jude Bellingham in midfield.

He really is a fantastic player and if Southgate’s side do see off Les Bleus tonight, Henderson will have played a part in that.
