Trevor Sinclair hinted in a tongue in cheek post on Twitter that Tottenham Hotspur have far bigger problems than just who is the club’s manager after losing the north London derby.

Arsenal beat Spurs 3-1 at the Emirates on Sunday to overtake Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the Premier League table. Tottenham topped the standings as the only team to win their opening three games, but have lost their following three.

Spurs now rank below Arsenal, who were bottom of the table a month ago, and trail table-toppers Liverpool by five-points. Nuno’s men have also only scored four goals all season to nine conceded, each allowed in their last three games.

Nuno already under pressure

Nuno’s time at the Tottenham helm is already in slight doubt just seven league fixtures into his tenure. He was Chairman Daniel Levy’s fifth-choice to replace Jose Mourinho after a 10-week search saw Hansi Flick, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso favoured.

Sinclair has somewhat joked that it would be wrong for Tottenham fans to now blame Nuno for their side’s struggles. Hinting that the problem in north London is far bigger.

“Imagine if Spurs fans start blaming the manager again,” Sinclair noted.

Do Tottenham have bigger problems?

Levy has been searching for the answers to revive Tottenham’s fortunes since Spurs fired Mauricio Pochettino. But, like Sinclair notes, the north Londoners’ problems are bigger than who stands at the helm.

Pochettino urged Levy to invest after Tottenham missed out on the Premier League title to Leicester City in 2016. The Argentine was adamant that Spurs had to spend to strengthen after their challenge fell short right at the end.

Three years later, Pochettino led Tottenham to the Champions League final and again urged Levy to invest after losing to Liverpool. But the axe fell on the now-Paris Saint-Germain manager’s tenure less than six-months later.

Levy has since spent, with only five of those who started the Champions League final still in north London. But Nuno is struggling to get everything he can out of those at the club, especially Harry Kane. An aspect he will need to address to turn the tide back in his favour.
