Chris Sutton has stated ‘imagine the reaction’ if Jose Mourinho lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace, after Tottenham and Nuno Espirito Santo suffered that over the weekend, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The former Premier League striker admitted that Nuno has made a ‘brilliant’ start to life at Tottenham, especially given the ‘mess’ that was surrounding him when he joined.
After four Premier League matches, Spurs have picked up nine points, scored three goals, secured three clean sheets and conceded three goals – all at Selhurst Park.
Whilst Nuno’s side have put the points on the board, a lot has been made about their style of play under their new coach.
But Sutton suggested that there would have been a different reaction to Tottenham’s weekend result if Mourinho was in charge.
“I think it has been a brilliant start from Nuno because of the mess he had to take over,” said Sutton. “And then you had the Kane situation.
“But had this been a start under Mourinho, and Spurs had won the first three games 1-0 and then lost the fourth game 3-0 and Crystal Palace outplaying Spurs.
“Then just imagine the reaction.”

A lot was said about Mourinho’s style in North London last season, and the man who has replaced him isn’t far off what he teaches on the training pitch.
Of course, as the season wears on, comparisons will be made to the last campaign, both good and bad.
But from Nuno’s perspective, even the slightest of improvements will be met with positive vibes.
Spurs fans are dreaming of Champions League football once more, but realistically, many will feel that’s not possible, so earning that top-six spot once more would be seen as a step in the right direction for Nuno.
