Tim Sherwood has said that Tottenham Hotspur could appoint Xabi Alonso, who has been linked with Liverpool as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp.

The former Tottenham manager has said on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast that he could see Spurs chairman Daniel Levy bringing in former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Alonso as the manager for next season and beyond.

According to De Telegraaf, Tottenham are serious about hiring Alonso as their next manager.

The 41-year-old is in charge of German club Bayer Leverkusen at the moment.

Interestingly, the former Spain international midfielder has been linked with Liverpool as well.

Back in January 2023, Goal reported that Liverpool are monitoring the progress of Alonso as a manager.

Now, Klopp is doing extremely well at the Reds, but the German is not going to stay at Anfield forever.

So, according to the report, Alonso is someone that Liverpool are looking at in the long term.

Tim Sherwood on Xabi Alonso to Tottenham Hotspur rumour

Sherwood said, as transcribed by TBR: “Yeah, I could imagine that.

“Anyone who is in vogue gets the chance to manage Tottenham.”

HITC Verdict: Potential mistake

In our view, Tottenham Hotspur should not appoint Xabi Alonso as their new manager in the summer of 2023.

Yes, Alonso is doing extremely well at Bayer at the moment, but the Spaniard has been in charge of the Bundesliga club for only a few months.

And he is 41.

If Tottenham are to progress as a club and on the pitch as a team, then they need a manager who is experienced and can make an immediate impact.
