Some Liverpool fans on social media have been reacting after Borussia Monchengladbach officially announced that Denis Zakaria will be leaving the club on a free transfer.
What’s the story with Zakaria?
The Swiss midfielder’s contract is up in the summer, and after a fair bit of speculation, he’s decided that he won’t be signing a new deal.
The 25-year-old, along with Mathias Ginter, will be leaving the Bundesliga club in the summer on a free.
This will undoubtedly be a massive blow for Monchengladbach, but their loss could well be Liverpool’s gain.
Liverpool’s chance
Fabrizio Romano claims that two English clubs have already been in contact with Zakaria about a potential Bosman move, and we have to imagine that Liverpool are one of the sides involved in that race.
Indeed, it has been widely reported that the Reds have an interest, while it’s also been claimed that Zakaria is keen to work under Jurgen Klopp.
This is a move that would make a lot of sense in a lot of ways. Liverpool don’t have much cover for Fabinho, and Zakaria would provide some quality depth in an area the Reds are slightly lacking in.
