Speaking on the Joe YouTube channel, Micah Richards has been attempting to build a combined XI from the 2006 and 2022 England squads.
The 2006 England squad was known as the ‘Golden Generation’ and it was packed full of talent.
The likes of Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Frank Lampard were all icons in their own right, but the true superstar in this team was of course David Beckham.
Inevitably, Beckham earned a place in this combined XI, and Richards was drooling over the idea of the former Real Madrid winger playing in the same team on the same flank as Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Imagine Beckham and Trent
Richards discussed the idea of Beckham playing with the Liverpool full-back.
“If Beckham is still around in the squad I’m choosing Beckham. I’m choosing Beckham with the quality that he possesses down the right. Imagine him and Trent down that side, it would be balls in for fun,” Richards said.
“Beckham couldn’t really beat people for pace, but how many times have we seen Trent burst down and pass back to Henderson or Thiago, now he has Beckham to play back to with Kane and Rooney in at the back post, lovely jubbly.”
Unstoppable
We can only begin to imagine how good this hypothetical England team would be with both Beckham and Alexander-Arnold down the right flank.
These two are absolute pass masters, and their delivery from wide is amongst the best we’ve ever seen.
However, there is one change we’d make to Richards’ team.
He says about Harry Kane or Wayne Rooney arriving at the back post, but we’d have to find space for Peter Crouch if you’re going to have Beckham and Alexander-Arnold whipping balls in for headers.
That trio of Beckham, Alexander-Arnold and Crouch could genuinely be unstoppable if used in the right way.
