According to The Athletic, West Ham United are eyeing up a move for Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, and the prospect of him coming to the Hammers should have everyone at the club very excited.
The numbers Weghorst has put up this season speak for themselves. He’s scored 20 times in the Bundesliga, and you don’t score that many goals unless you’ve got something about you.
However, it’s the manner in which Weghorst scores his goals that should have Hammers fans excited.
Standing at 6 foot 6, it’s no surprise to hear that the Dutchman is a monster in the air, and as you can imagine, he scores plenty with his head.
Indeed, he’s netted six headers this season, and the idea of him joining a West Ham side that scores so many goals from set-pieces is scary.
Look at the Hammers this term, the likes of Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna have become goal-scoring threats from set-pieces, but the pick of the bunch is Tomas Soucek.
The Czech midfielder is an incredible aerial threat, and the idea of him and Weghorst being in the same side is scary for any opposition.
Right now, defending against West Ham from set-pieces is difficult enough, but if you add Weghorst into the mix it becomes an almost impossible task.
Just imagine how scared you’d be as a defender with Soucek and Weghorst, whose combined height comes to a staggering 12 feet and 10 inches, prowling around the six-yard box waiting for a pin-point delivery from someone like Aaron Cresswell from a corner or a free-kick.
Usually, you think of two strikers as a goalscoring duo, but in this case, it may be a midfielder and a striker that form a frightening partnership that may be one of the scariest in England.
