Gary Lineker has suggested that he wants to see Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold establish a new full-back partnership for England.

England star?

Alexander-Arnold has so far struggled to nail down a spot in Gareth Southgate’s side, despite his brilliance for Liverpool.

The right-back is one of Jurgen Klopp’s side most important players.

However, with England boasting such a wealth of riches at right-back, Alexander-Arnold is yet to make such a vast impact on the International stage.

Lineker thinks that the time has now come for the Liverpool man to be picked regularly though.

And to do so, the Match of the Day presenter suggests that Southgate should consider switching Reece James’ position and using him as a left-wing back.

James plays new role

Lineker’s tweet came, as James actually played the bulk of the second half on the left for Chelsea yesterday.

The in-form defender still impressed, but he was unable to propel Chelsea to victory against Manchester United.

That may well have been a result which pleased his potential future England full-back partner.

Liverpool have now closed the gap on Chelsea at the top of the table to just two points, after they demolished Southampton 4-0 at the weekend.

Alexander-Arnold played his part in the triumph, as he claimed his seventh assist of the season and delivered another excellent display.
