Tottenham Hotspur have another World Cup winner.
Four years on from Hugo Lloris’ triumph in Russia, Cristian Romero has come out on top in Qatar as Argentina beat France on penalties to become World Champions for the fourth time.
The Argentina victory sparked wild, and emotional, celebrations on the pitch, and while Romero has garnered something of a reputation for being outlandish, he was very reserved in his celebration.
The centre-back was in tears as he took it all in, and he made sure to savour this moment with his teammates.
Like everyone else, Romero made sure to celebrate alongside Lionel Messi after the final penalty had been taken, but, interestingly, he also had a long embrace with reported Tottenham target, Lautaro Martinez, after the game.
This is a fantastic shot of two players who have seen all of their hard work pay off.
This has not been an easy ride for either of these two, they’ve had to fight and fight to prove their abilities over the years, and finally, they have received their reward in the shape of a World Cup win.
Having both cut their teeth in Serie A, it’s clear to see just how well these two get on, and who knows? Perhaps they could be teammates at Tottenham one day.
Indeed, Spurs have been strongly linked with Martinez for a little while now, and after tasting success alongside Romero at an international level, perhaps the striker will be keen to unite with his countryman at club level too.
However, after a number of rather shoddy showings in front of goal by Martinez at this tournament, we have to wonder if Spurs are still keen on the South American.
Given that Antonio Conte absolutely loved Martinez during their time together at Inter you have to think that Spurs are still somewhat interested, and perhaps this World Cup win could spark the striker into a bit of form going into the new year.
