Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he’s heard about Leeds United’s new manager Jesse Marsch.

Marsch has never managed in the Premier League before, so there’s a real sense of intrigue around this appointment.

Romano is so well-connected in football, and as you can imagine, he’s been asking around about what Marsch is like.

Unfortunately for Leeds, the journalist has had mixed feedback.

His players absolutely love him, but others were disappointed with his stint at RB Leipzig, stating that he’s a manager who needs a lot of time to get his ideas across.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Marsch.

“He’s the manager they had in the list for a long time. I have had very different positions when I ask about him. A lot of people appreciate him and his relationships with his players, they think it wasn’t easy for him to join Leipzig and they were disappointed with what happened at Leipzig,” Romano said.

“From Salzburg, he was doing a great job with his players and his system, he needs time, and this is why I’m worried for Leeds because it’s not easy to give time to an American manager coming for the first time in the Premier League. It’s about how much time he’ll have to show his ideas and skills as a manager. But at the same point, from the players’ side, I have very good feedback on Marsch, they love his approach, love his ideas and love his methods. It’s more about the club, they need to back him, to support him and give him time to show his ideas,” Romano said.

Doesn’t have time

Romano says that Marsch needs time, but at Leeds, he doesn’t have it.

The Whites have 12 games left of this season, and, quite simply, if they don’t start winning, they’re going to be relegated.

In the long-term Marsch could be a good manager for Leeds, but right now, they don’t need a long-term project building gaffer, they need a firefighter.

If Marsch isn’t up to the task, Leeds could be relegated.
