The recently-departed Tottenham defender Serge Aurier has stated that he is ‘very happy’ at joining Villarreal, as he told the club’s Twitter account.
On transfer deadline day, Spurs purchased Barcelona’s rising star Emerson Royal and then agreed to rip up Aurier’s contract.
The 28-year-old became a free-agent and started to search for a new home to ply his energetic talents.
He ended up landing in Spain, on Villarreal’s doorstep, and linking up with a familiar face in Unai Emery, who he worked with in Paris.
Nonetheless, Aurier expressed his excitement at this ‘very good opportunity’ that has come his way
“It’s a new experience for me,” said Aurier. “I am excited because I knew and I watch a lot games.
“I think it’s a very good opportunity for me to start in the new challenge. This is a real opportunity for me because I know already the manager. We was in Paris together.
“He call me and explain everything. I am happy to work back with him because we still have a good relationship.
“I am very happy to be here. I know the atmosphere. I know the fans. I am excited to start here.”

Aurier needed to re-charge his batteries and move away from North London, especially given how stacked that right-back spot was becoming.
If the Ivory Coast speedster stayed put then he would have been behind Japhet Tanganga, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty in the pecking order.
Even Doherty will feel that his time is up because, last season was a trouble for him and now he can’t even earn minutes.
What will also be even more worrying for the Irishman is that the man in the dugout, Nuno Espirito Santo, brought the best out of him at Wolves, but isn’t seemingly picking him now in new surroundings.
