Dharmesh Sheth has shared that David Moyes’ West Ham United have told Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United that they want to sign Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, plus ‘how much they will be prepared to pay’.
The Sky Sports transfer expert added that Manchester United view their senior duo as ‘top players’ and ‘key members of the squad moving forward’, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (07/08/23 at 7:20 pm).
That’s not what West Ham United want to hear because it really means that they have to pay top, top dollar for the duo, even though they are probably for sale.
It’s pretty obvious that Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford has hit a brick wall after he was stripped of the captain’s armband this summer, whilst Scott McTominay is behind Casemiro in the starting XI.
Well, it seems as though the Europa Conference League winners put in a combined bid of ‘£60 million’ on the table for Maguire and McTominay, which has been turned down, according to talkSPORT.
It’s going to be interesting to see how far the Hammers push this boat out, but according to Sheth, they have already shared with Man United what they are willing to pay.
“I have been told in the last few minutes that West Ham have made it clear, to Manchester United, that they want to sign both players,” said Sheth.
“They have made it clear to them how much they will be prepared to pay for both players as well. It could almost be looked at as a potential double deal, whereby West Ham would sign both Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.
“As far as Manchester United’s stance, it remains the same, they still regard them as top players and key members of their squad moving forward.”
Everyone knows West Ham have money
That’s one of their biggest issues and a key reason why prices that clubs will ask for their players will be inflated.
This is where West Ham needed to get deals done before Declan Rice headed for the exit door, but instead, they had to wait until they saw the transaction on their balance sheet before making moves in the market.
Now they are running around with a wad of cash in their back pocket, wanting to buy x, y and z player, with the selling party putting a few million on their players because they know West Ham, not only have the money, but are also desperate to buy.
