Phil Hay has told his Athletic podcast that Leif Davis has surprised Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch in training – but the left-back is interesting Ipswich Town and could be sold to the League One side.
Davis, 22, has returned to Leeds this summer after spending the 2021-22 season on loan at Bournemouth. The Cherries have decided not to activate the £1.5million permanent clause in his contract, after struggling.
He only played 15 times for Scott Parker’s side in a season where Bournemouth secured automatic promotion. He returns to Elland Road, where he has only 14 senior outings, with less than 12 months left on his contract.

Discussing pre-season training, Hay said that he had been told Davis had impressed Marsch. The left-back got 45 minutes against Blackpool on Thursday, but he could end up leaving the club sooner rather than later.
“From what I’m told, Leif Davis has done really well since coming back. Marsch has been quite sold on him. Ipswich are keen on Davis, they’re offering a lot of money in comparison to how much he has played. So he might exit.”

The issue for Davis, is that he is in the final year of his contract. Yes, he could stay and act as cover for Junior Firpo – who was excellent against Blackpool. But for his career, a move is probably his best move.
Davis has just 29 senior appearances at this stage in his career. At 22, it is simply not enough. Reports claim that he is ‘heading to’ Ipswich for £1million. That sounds a bit further on than the truth, but it he should consider it.
