Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Ian McGarry has shared what West Ham were protesting for during the Super League crisis talks this week.
A meeting was called between the 14 Premier League clubs who hadn’t signed up for the breakaway competition earlier this week to discuss what should happen next, and according to McGarry, West Ham were adamant that there should be points deductions handed out.
“I’m told that at the beginning of the meeting there was a lot of anger and a lot of frustrations. There were several calls for a points deduction, one of the most vehement protesters was West Ham United, who were adamant that a points deduction and a fine was a suitable way to deal with the big six,” McGarry said.

This is certainly very interesting to hear.
It’s not hard to understand why West Ham wanted points deductions handed out. After all, docked points would basically hand them a place in next season’s Champions League, while a hefty punishment could even put them in the Premier League title race.
It remains to be seen how these six teams will be punished, but if several clubs were pushing for a points deduction, it may be on the cards.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
