Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has shared a bit of insight into Liverpool’s January transfer plans.
The Reds want to sign a new attacker in the winter window. Partially because of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s commitments at the African Cup of Nations throughout that period.
Castles claims that Liverpool actually want a player who is similar to Salah and Mane in that they’d like to sign an attacker who has the same lightning speed possessed by the 29-year-olds.
What’s been said about Liverpool?
Castles says that the Reds want to sign an attacker who has similar speed to Salah and Mane.
“They have been pleased with Diogo Jota since he joined the club, but ideally, I’m told, that they’re looking for another player who has the bit of extra pace that Mo Salah and Sadio Mane have, so another super-fast forward to add to the attack. Part of this is obviously driven by the African Cup of Nations,” Castles said.

Right idea
Liverpool certainly have the right idea here.
If they’re going to lose Mane and Salah for a period, then the best replacement is probably a like-for-like player.
Pace is arguably Mane and Salah’s biggest strength, and with Klopp playing a pressing style that utilises fast-breaking counter-attacks, the Reds need a truly rapid frontline for that to work.
Of course, finding a player that quick is easier said than done, so it will be interesting to see who the Merseyside club end up going for.
