Journalist Paul Brown has told Give Me Sport that he has been “told” that Said Benrahma is one of the “fittest” players in the West Ham squad – amid question marks over the player’s form since he joined the club from Brentford in 2020.
Benrahma, 27, joined West Ham initially on loan from Brentford before completing a permanent £25million move in January 2021. In the two years he has spent at West Ham, he has already surpassed 100 games – albeit, by just two.
In that time, he has had a hand in 31 goals – scoring 16 and creating 15. Not a bad return, and always readily available for the Hammers. But he is a player that can frustrate, often getting himself into good positions but failing to score.
West Ham fans have also often criticised his work rate. But, the Algeria international – who will not be at the World Cup due to his country’s failure to qualify – is one of the fittest in David Moyes’ squad. That is according to journalist Brown.

“Benrahma is an enigma and probably always has been really. He’s capable of scoring spectacular goals, he’s capable of changing the game with a little moment of magic, but he does drift in and out of games.
“I’m told he’s actually one of the fittest people at the club, so it’s not that he’s someone who can’t get about the pitch and press and do his part,” Brown told Give Me Sport, when discussing West Ham star Benrahma.
Brown told Benrahma one of the fittest in West Ham squad
It is quite surprising that the ex-Brentford man is one of the fittest in the Hammers squad. There is no doubting his ability, his skill, his flair, his tricks, his technique. But he is a player that needs to deliver more in a Hammers shirt.
The burden of a £25million price tag at a club like West Ham means fans are expectant. But his 24 goal involvements in 75 Premier League appearances does go under the radar, one in three games. So, perhaps, he deserves a little respect.
