Well, Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham Hotspur seems relatively calm.
For now.
Last week, the Italian manager threw his Tottenham career into jeopardy by suggesting he was ready to accept being sacked by chairman Daniel Levy following a defeat at Burnley.
That was Spurs’ fourth defeat in five Premier League outings, having won 3-2 at Manchester City.
However, the North Londoners bounced back with a ruthless 4-0 victory at Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the controversy, Tottenham’s players remain firmly behind the no-nonsense manager.
And Peter Crouch has revealed he has heard that the Lilywhites’ playing staff have been left blown away by Conte’s training sessions.
He told The Daily Mail: “Antonio Conte, who I’m told the players are incredibly impressed by in training, realises that, although there will be an element of regret for the way he spoke at Burnley in midweek. I know what it’s like. When I was interviewed after defeats, I would come out and say things I didn’t mean.”
Despite the uncertainty and controversy of Conte’s short reign in North London, Tottenham could do big things this season.
They’re only five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United but, crucially, Spurs also have two games in hand.
Considering a lot of the damage was inflicted under Nuno Espirito Santo’s stint, qualifying for the Champions League would represent an excellent turnaround for the Lilywhites and if Conte can achieve that, well his first full season could be special.
