Speaking on the All To Play For Podcast, Joe Cole has been raving over Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka.
The teenager came on for Aston Villa against Tottenham, and it’s fair to say he stole the show in his cameo appearance, hitting the post and causing havoc for the opposition defenders.
Cole has seen him play before when covering FA Youth Cup action, and he believes that he could be a ready-made replacement for Jack Grealish.
“They’re really happy with the squad they’ve got. Chukwuemeka, I did an FA Youth Cup game with him, Carney Chukwuemeka. I had as much trouble pronouncing his name as I did just then, but he’s a player mate. I’m telling you,” Cole said.
“Let me tell you, if Jack Grealish does decide to leave Villa, they might have a ready-made replacement in that young man right there, he’s really impressed me.”
This is a big claim from Cole.
Grealish is one of the best players in England, and while Chukwuemeka has shown a lot of promise, it’s hard to say that he can act as Grealish’s replacement.
However, clubs such as Borussia Dortmund don’t sound you out unless you’re a very special talent, and his showing against Tottenham proved that he’s got what it takes to play at Premier League level.
What the future holds for Chukwuemeka remains to be seen, but it seems as though he’s a player Aston Villa fans should be very excited about.
