Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Mat Ryan’s claims that he wants to return to the club this summer.
The 29-year-old briefly joined Arsenal in January as a back-up goalkeeper from Brighton – and now he’s set to return to the AMEX Stadium.
Ryan told Fox Sports that he has ‘faith’ in the people around him to make the ‘best decision’ for his future and he is hoping that Arsenal becomes an ‘option’.
On paper, Ryan is more than capable of being a number one at a bottom half Premier League club, so being back-up to Bernd Leno once again wouldn’t be a bad choice from Arsenal’s perspective.
It seems as though the Arsenal supporters would like him to return, and given that Brighton were happy to let him leave during the winter transfer window, then there shouldn’t be any reason why they would stop him from leaving once again when the summer transfer window opens.
Arsenal have always been playing catch-up in the number two department ever since they allowed Emiliano Martinez to leave last summer – he has since gone on to win Aston Villa’s Player of the Season.
But after the initial problems with Alex Runarsson, it now seems that the Gunners have a safe pair of hands with Ryan and it’s something that they should push for given that he is calling for them to knock on his door again.
It needs to be remembered that if they don’t sign Ryan again then Runarsson will be the back-up to Leno, and after his pretty shaky and eventful debut campaign at the Emirates, the fans sure don’t want him inbetween the sticks again.
