Andy Hinchcliffe has told Sky Sports, during their coverage of Everton’s match against Newcastle United, that he was surprised by Carlo Ancelotti’s comments about Robin Olsen.
Ancelotti dropped Jordan Pickford for Everton’s game against Newcastle, with the goalkeeper taking fierce criticism recently.
However, Ancelotti said before the game that Olsen had no chance of keeping his place in Everton’s team.
The Italian boss admitted that his plan was to bring Pickford back at the next available opportunity.
And Hinchcliffe was shocked by the comments. He said: “That’s strange. If he’s going to play next week, why isn’t he playing today?
“You leave a goalkeeper out but then tell Robin Olsen, you’re definitely not going to be playing next week. What does it do for his confidence?
“I’m surprised Ancelotti said that about him.”

Olsen put in a solid enough performance for Everton against Newcastle, even though they fell to a defeat.
The Swede did very little wrong, but conceded twice as Everton dropped points again.
The Toffees’ next match comes against Manchester United at the weekend, when Pickford will be under pressure to perform upon his return to the team.
