Jermaine Jenas has told BT Sport that he thinks Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela is going to be dropped by Jose Mourinho this weekend.
Lamela has enjoyed a run of starts for Spurs in the Premier League of late, but the £25 million man’s place (Independent) is now under severe pressure from Gareth Bale.
It was notable that Bale was not in Tottenham’s Europa League starting line-up last night against Wolfsberger AC.
And Jenas feels that the Welshman’s omission suggests he will take Lamela’s place against Burnley on Sunday.
“I’m surprised in a good way because that tells me he’s probably going to be playing at the weekend,” Jenas said.
“That’s what I want, I want to see Bale in the team in the Premier League, and Lamela playing tonight tells me he’s probably going to switch those two over.”
Bale’s case for a starting spot in the Premier League was actually aided by the impact that he made from the bench yesterday.

Bale scored a belter to cap off a 4-0 victory for Tottenham, as they strolled into the next round.
The 31-year-old seems to be gaining in confidence by the game now, and there is real hope that he could hurt Burnley at the weekend, if he is picked to start.
