Michail Antonio has admitted that he is ‘surprised’ that that he was able to score for West Ham against Tottenham because he was actually meant to ‘block’ Harry Kane during that corner, as he told Sky Sports.
The West Ham hitman got ahead of Kane to prod home the only goal of the game, as the Hammers beat Spurs at the London Stadium on Sunday.
There wasn’t much action during the all-London affair, with the home side creating the better chances and Spurs looking clueless after the break.
Even though Spurs picked up all three points at Newcastle last week, then rested all XI players for their midweek European trip to Holland, they still weren’t able to do the business.
In the end, following Aaron Cresswell’s corner, Antonio managed to prod home, for another goal against Spurs and one more to his tally for the season and this is what he had to say.
“To be fair, I wasn’t really there to score today,” said Antonio. “I was kind of there to block Harry.
“But the ball has come my way, being the poacher that I am, I stuck my foot out.
“I am not going to lie, I am surprised it went in. I kind of just got my foot there, just to get in front of him and it’s gone into the bottom corner.”

Only Mo Salah and Jamie Vardy have scored more goals than Antonio this season, with the former Nottingham Forest star on six for the campaign, added with his three assists.
As for Kane, who was the Premier League’s top-scorer and assist-maker last season, he only has one league goal to his name.
Even though you should never write off a player of Kane’s calibre, he just isn’t looking like himself, at this moment, which will be worrying supporters.
But there is still a long way to go, and whilst Kane will have to do something special to stop Salah now, he will probably still be amongst the highest goalscorers by the time the final ball is kicked.
