Rio Ferdinand thinks that Jack Grealish only stayed at Aston Villa as Manchester United never pushed to sign him.
Grealish has just penned a new long-term deal at Villa, which should keep him at the the Midlands club for the prime years of his career.
Grealish has shown great loyalty to Villa by sticking by them, despite links with some high profile clubs.
And Villa fans were quick to remind Ferdinand of his comments, when he suggested that there was no chance that the newly capped England international would ever pick the claret and blues over United.
However, Ferdinand has now hit back – and he suggests that he believes Grealish only stayed with Villa because United didn’t make a bid for him.
United had been strongly linked with Grealish all summer, but he seemed to be a secondary target, rather than their main priority.
Since signing his new contract, Grealish has insisted that he stuck by Villa because he was convinced by the club’s ambition, rather than a lack of interest from elsewhere.
Villa played their first competitive game of the season last night, and they were able to win 3-1 against Burton Albion, with Grealish netting in the contest.
