Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Tottenham’s January transfer window plans and Alessandro Bastoni.

As many will remember, Tottenham were so heavily linked with Bastoni in the summer.

The Italian defender was, quite clearly, Spurs’ top defensive target in the summer window, and there has been plenty of chatter about a January move.

Gold says that he’s fairly sure that Spurs will ask the question in January, but he admits that it’s tough to see Inter actually letting the player leave at this juncture, stating that a summer move is more likely.

Bastoni to Spurs?

Gold shared what he knows about Bastoni.

“Is Bastoni a possibility in January? I’m sure Spurs will enquire, but I struggle to see why Inter would let him go in January, it doesn’t really make any sense. I’ve not seen anything about his contract, unless I’ve missed it. I don’t think they’ve renewed his contract, there’s been nothing thus far. The summer becomes a prime opportunity. The Lenglet deal being a loan without an option to buy lends itself to a summer move for an expensive player, and that could be Bastoni,” Gold said.

This is a transfer link that will persist for as long as Antonio Conte is at Tottenham.

Whether or not Bastoni does end up at Spurs remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, Conte loves this player.

He was one of his most trusted generals during his time at Inter, and he’s a perfect fit for his three-at-the-back system.

Bastoni to Spurs isn’t necessarily the most likely transfer ahead of the January window. After all, getting a player out of Inter is a tough task, but it’s one that Tottenham will seemingly be monitoring in the long-term.
