‘I’m sure’: Journalist makes claim about £45m reported Arsenal target

Well-known Spanish football journalist Graham Hunter has told Sky Sports that Thomas Partey would be a success at Arsenal.

The Sky Sports Spanish football expert has outlined the attributes that would see the Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder succeed at the Gunners.

According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are interested in signing the Ghana international from Spanish club Atletico in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that the 26-year-old has a £45 million release clause in his contract, and that the player himself is open to switching to the Gunners this summer.

Confident claim

Hunter told Sky Sports about Partey: “Partey speaks decent English, so that wouldn’t be an obstacle from him were he to go to the Premier League.

“He’s still at an age where the pace and the physicality of the Premier League wouldn’t be beyond him. He’s not the quickest, but he’s an athlete that keeps going.

“I don’t imagine for a second that he grew up idolising Mikel Arteta, but because of the amount of English football that’s shown in Ghana, and because of the role that Arteta played as a midfielder in the Premier League, I’m sure Partey will feel he would be working for a coach who would be able to educate him still further in the arts of organising the centre of midfield.”

According to WhoScored, Partey has made 21 starts and three substitute appearances in La Liga for Atletico so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.

The Ghana international also scored one goal and provided one assist in eight Champions League games for the Spanish outfit this campaign, according to WhoScored.
