Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Harry Kane’s desire to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record could result in him staying at Tottenham Hotspur.
According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich have agreed a deal with Tottenham to sign Harry Kane.
However, Carragher thinks the England striker would rather have the Premier League record he is chasing than a Bundesliga title. On Twitter, the Sky Sports pundit wrote: “Alan Shearer’s PL goal record gets talked about a lot more than his PL winners medal. That record will be huge for HK.”
He later added: “I’m sure he’d rather have the PL record than the Bundesliga!”
Kane now has a huge decision to make as he weighs up staying in England or moving to Germany this summer.
Harry Kane will have more options next summer
Kane does not have to leave Tottenham now. His contract is up in 2024, so he could choose to depart then.
Daniel Levy will not be able to stop him from joining another English side like Manchester United, for example, which may be what he truly wants.
At Old Trafford, the Three Lions captain would have the chance to win trophies and become the highest goalscorer in Premier League history.
It appears that Kane is open to the idea of playing for Bayern, otherwise the German club would not be bidding for him. However, you cannot help but get the impression that his preference would be to join another English side.
It is clear that Levy will not let that happen this summer, though, so if Kane wants out now, then it is probably Bayern or nothing.
If not and the forward is happy to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for another season, then maybe he could join a United or a Chelsea next year.
There is also the possibility that he signs a new contract, the outcome all Tottenham supporters will be praying for if this Bayern deal does not go through.
