Speaking on The FPL Show, Glenn Murray has backed Craig Dawson to start scoring goals for West Ham after Angelo Ogbonna’s injury.

Ogbonna went down against Liverpool and unfortunately, it’s a very serious issue that could keep him out of action for the remainder of the season.

It’s a real shame to see Ogbonna sidelined, he’s been fantastic for the Hammers this term, but, on the bright side, West Ham do have a competent replacement in the shape of Craig Dawson.

What’s been said?

Murray spoke about Dawson and his ability from set-pieces.

“They’re talking about him potentially being out for the rest of the season and that could affect the amount of goals they get because he’s such a part of their set-piece set up,” James Richardson said about Ogbonna.

“Yeah, unfortunately, I think he suffered an ACL injury which is bad news for him and West Ham. But they have a really good replacement actually in Craig Dawson. He’s very attack-minded from corners, very aggressive and I’m sure if he starts games we’ll see him on the scoresheet,” Murray said.

Amongst the goals

Murray is spot on about Dawson’s ability to attack set-pieces.

The 31-year-old may be a defender, but he’s a real goal threat from dead ball situations.

He scored four goals in 24 games across all competitions last season, and while those numbers aren’t remarkable, it’s a respectable return for a centre-back.

Don’t be shocked if you see Dawson pop up with a goal or two in the coming weeks.
