Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans.

The Magpies are expected to have a busy summer, but they’re still waiting on their first signing of the summer.

According to Romano, Newcastle will prioritise signings such as Dean Henderson and a new left-back, and according to the journalist, we could see five or six new faces heading into St James’ Park this summer.

What’s been said?

Romano spoke about the Magpies’ plans.

“Henderson as a goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, I think he’s a priority for Newcastle, and then I see them going for a left-back, Renan Lodi, there are a lot of rumours on him, but I’m told it’s not close at the moment, so I’m sure they will sign a new left-back too. They will be pretty busy and will sign five or six players this summer,” Romano said.

Won’t be challenging

Newcastle may now be the richest club on the planet, but it’s fair to say that they might not be challenging for the very top honours this season.

Indeed, five or six additions won’t be enough to propel Newcastle into the race for the top four this time around, especially if two of those are to be Dean Henderson and Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle have an exciting future, there is no doubt about it, but any fans who think that the club will be instant top-four challengers this season may be in for a rude awakening.

Five or six additions could see Newcastle attempt a Europa League push, but that will probably be their limit this season.
