Tottenham Hotspur fans are in high spirits after an early start by their club in the transfer window. Spurs announced the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton on a five-year deal and the Dane is expected to be a very good addition to their squad.
Hojbjerg isn’t the first Danish international to play for Tottenham. Spurs fans had another Dane for the better part of the last decade and that man is still pretty famous among the fans.
Christian Eriksen is arguably one of the best players to play for Tottenham in recent times. The Dane spent six and a half years as a Spurs player, playing 305 games, scoring 69 goals and providing 89 assists in all competitions.
Since he left the club in January, Tottenham’s midfield has looked pretty dull and Spurs fans are hoping that Hojbjerg, although a completely different player to Eriksen, will bring some spark back in the centre of the park.
Eriksen took to Twitter to send a message to his former club after they announced the signing of his compatriot from the Saints.
Tottenham fans should be excited about Hojbjerg
Hojbjerg isn’t the type of signing that will bring Spurs fans to their feet but he is a solid player. The Dane, despite only being 25, has played close to 250 games for club and country over the years.
The former Bayern Munich man is a real leader and he captained Southampton at the raw age of 23. His addition brings in some much-needed balance to Tottenham’s midfield and, under Mourinho, Hojbjerg could develop into one of the best in the business in the coming years.
If Spurs fans weren’t excited by Hojbjerg’s signing, Eriksen’s seal of approval should be enough to convince them. If the Dane goes on to have at least half as good a career as his compatriot, he will end up being a fine player for Tottenham.
