Paul Merson told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (02/03/21 at 8:05 pm) that he is ‘still rocking’ after being told by a fellow pundit that they would take reported Liverpool target, Erling Haaland, over Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
The outspoken Sky pundit made it clear that he would have Tottenham’s hitman man over the rumoured Liverpool and Man City target because he is ‘assured’ to give you ’30 goals’.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Haaland would be interested in a move to Liverpool, with the current champions keen on his signature.
Nonetheless, ex-Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie first claimed that he would be ‘baffled’ if a Premier League club doesn’t buy the ‘special’ Halland next season before he reacted to Merson’s question about who he would pick between the Dortmund star and Kane.
“If one of the Premier League clubs don’t buy him for next season then I would be baffled,” said Hendrie. “He is something special, I tell you that now. For the work he does off the ball as well.”
Merson then asked his ex-teammate, ‘who would you take him or Kane?’ To which he responded ‘I would go with Haaland, all day.”
The ex-Arsenal man was then left shocked and said ‘All what? All what? I’m still rocking. All day. Naaah.
“For me, Harry Kane, wherever he goes in the Premier League, whether he goes to one of the big boys then he’s hitting the ground running. This is a hard league.
“You see Werner come over. He ripped it up the German league. He was brilliant. Havertz, he was brilliant. Scored loads of goals. They come over here and they cannot score goals. It takes time. But I think with Harry Kane, he gives you 30 goals. You are assured. Bang. Done!
“I like Haaland, don’t get me wrong but if you are saying to me ‘him or Harry Kane’ then Kane for me is an assured thing – But that all day one, I cannot have that.”

There’s no doubt that Haaland will be a sought-after player in the summer and if a Premier League club does snap him up then he can test himself against some of England’s best.
Both Haaland and Kane are high-quality performers, with one at the peak of his powers and the other wowing the public with his meteoric rise but still years away from his best.
Financially, it would be better to push for Halland’s signature, but if you want something here and now then perhaps Kane is your man.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how they both fare against each other if the Dortmund star does swap Germany for England in the summer.
