Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Kyle Walker-Peters after he got his first England call-up.
Wright was over the moon to see Walker-Peters get the nod for the Three Lions, and he questioned why Tottenham ever let the right-back go.
Indeed, Wright says that he believes Walker-Peters to be better than both Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal, and he is seemingly baffled by Spurs’ decision to get rid of Walker-Peters.
What’s been said?
Wright spoke about the defender.
“Kyle Walker-Peters, it’s great to see him get in. I remember watching him at Spurs, and they got rid of Kyle Walker-Peters and brought in Aurier, I watched Serge for a couple of games and thought Walker-Peters is a better player, they got Emerson Royal, and I’m sorry, he’s better than Emerson Royal, and it’s the same with Doherty even though he does some great things going forward. I watch him and I think ‘why did Tottenham get rid of him?’ Why have they gotten rid of him when you watch how he plays? I’m made up that he got the call-up, that helps him and gives him the buzz,” Wright said.

Should’ve given him a chance
Unfortuantely for Spurs, Wright is spot on about Walker-Peters.
The full-back has been outperforming Emerson Royal this season, and while Doherty has had a recent resurgence, Walker-Peters has been more consistent than the Irishman.
His good form has now been rewarded with an England call-up, and this international recognition may be just what he needs to move up another gear.
