Ian Wright has expressed his shock on Premier League Productions at Arsenal’s set-piece coach, Andreas Georgson, deciding that Nicolas Pepe should be the one marking Yerry Mina following their defeat to Everton last night.

Arsenal suffered yet another morale-sapping loss under Mikel Arteta, and that to another set-piece goal, with Mina’s near-post header from a corner being the decisive goal of the game during the 2-1 defeat.

Even though the likes of David Luiz and Rob Holding were on the field of play, it was Pepe who was tasked to mark Everton’s biggest man on the pitch.

Wright couldn’t believe that the winger, who had just scored from the penalty spot to equalise, was given that job by Arsenal’s set-piece coach.

“I am sorry but Arsenal do actually have a set-piece coach,” said Wright. “For them, to think that someone like Pepe is given the responsibility of marking Yerry Mina. We are talking about six inches on him.

“That’s just poor. That should not be happening. David Luiz or Rob Holding should be dealing with that situation. That should not be happening.”

Given how things are going at Arsenal currently, it’s going to be more of a surprise if they win a game now rather than lose one.

Even though they secured a tough-natured draw against high-flying Southampton last time out, they are in an absolute mess with no signs of recovery, hope or light.

The simple conclusion would be to sack Arteta, which seemingly will happen, but that still leaves the Arsenal fans having to watch a crop of players who couldn’t cut it under Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and now Arteta himself.
