Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been chatting about Manchester City and their need for a striker.
The Premier League leaders are one of the fiercest teams in the world, but it does have to be said that at times this season they’ve lacked a cutting edge.
They were held by Crystal Palace on Monday, while they were bailed out by a late Phil Foden goal against Everton a fortnight ago.
Wright attributes this shortcoming to a lack of a striker, and he claims that if City had signed Harry Kane in the summer, they’d have scored against Palace on Monday.

Wright spoke about Kane and City needing a striker.
“Can I say as well. The elephant in the room, they need a striker, they needed someone who was there. They need that City. Let’s not just ignore the fact that they had 17 opportunities and didn’t score. We’re getting to the crux of the season and they didn’t score,” Wright said.
“I was listening to Carragher and Neville and they said that City didn’t win the game simply because they didn’t have the firepower. They can keep the ball and beat you to a pulp, but you can nick a draw off of them, Liverpool win that game.”
“In these moments, in these games they need a striker. Yes, they went for Harry Kane. Harry Kane scores in that game, I’m sorry but, Harry Kane, if he’s playing for City scores in that game. There’s a time where they need a striker, and it’s at this stage of the season beause teams will be deep trying to catch them on the break. At the end of the day they don’t have the clinical guy to make it 1-0 and get back on that bus.”
Should have gotten him
You feel that if Kane had signed for City this summer, the title race would already be over.
Of course, Pep Guardiola’s side didn’t end up getting Kane and they instead splashed their summer budget on Jack Grealish, and while Grealish is a fantastic player, you feel as though he’s more of a luxury than a necessity.
Perhaps City would have been better served splashing the cash on Kane in the summer.
