Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has apologised to supporters, as he feels it could still be some time before his side are ready to compete at the top end of the Premier League table, as per his comments to ESPN.
Arsenal are currently in 14th place in the Premier League table, after what has been an extremely difficult start to the campaign.
The Gunners have struggled badly going forward, with their attacking play seemingly stifled at times.
Arteta, who is on a £96k-a-week deal at the Emirates Stadium (Goal), has come under pressure from some supporters, who feel his system is not getting the best out of his team.
But Arteta has warned that Arsenal need to make plenty of alterations before he will be confident in them succeeding, and has asked for patience.
“As I said before, even when we were winning we were still a long, long way from what I want,” he said.
“When we’re losing you obviously see things even further, but again the margins between where we were losing and winning have sometimes been really, really small. There are reasons for it and it’s going to take time, I’m sorry.”
Whether Arteta will be given the time needed for his changes to work remains to be seen, but he retains the support of their board for now, according to David Ornstein.
Arsenal are next in league action against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, and if they are beaten in the North London derby then the pressure will only ramp up further on Arteta’s job.
