Arsenal go to Liverpool on Monday night in search of a third successive win over the Premier League champions.

The Gunners beat Jurgen Klopp’s side in North London shortly after they clinched the title back in July, before then pipping them to the Community Shield in August after winning the FA Cup.

By virtue of the fact they’re chasing a hat-trick of wins over Liverpool, you could argue that Mikel Arteta has been a quite wonderful appointment by Arsenal.

The Spaniard was appointed back in December following Unai Emery’s dismissal and winning a major trophy in his first season could be considered a huge sign that the Emirates Stadium club’s hierarchy made an inspired decision to bring back their former midfielder.

It’s by and large the same group of players that Emery had at his disposal, with the exception of Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes now, but even before Arteta signed the Brazilian duo, he was getting a much sweeter tune out of an identical squad that his predecessor was struggling to motivate.

And one man who admits that he’s ‘so impressed’ by Arteta is Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who says that his former club will be eager to put the Londoners in their place on Merseyside on Monday.

He told the Pitch to Post podcast for Sky Sports: “There’s no doubt Arsenal are on the way back under Mikel Arteta. I think he’s been a brilliant signing. I’m so impressed with how he’s managing that squad.

“But what he’s done with the squad he’s inherited is fantastic. To win the FA Cup, beat Liverpool a couple of times in the league and Community Shield, that’s something Liverpool will want to put right.”
