Mark Bosnich has told Sky Sports News (19/10/20 at 8:30 am) that he can ‘comfortably’ see Aston Villa finish in the top 10 this season and has backed them to finish in the top-six also.
The former Australian goalkeeper stated that he is ‘so happy’ that his former club have started the new Premier League campaign in such a strong fashion.
Dean Smith’s side have won their opening four league matches, securing three clean sheets, including against Leicester City on Sunday.
Bosnich made it clear that there is no reason as to why Villa cannot secure a European finish this term, as he shared how crucial Jack Grealish has been to their rise.
“Look, I am so happy for them,” Bosnich told Sky Sports. “They are an old club of mine and a massive club.
“They survived by the skin of their teeth last season. They have gone ahead and strengthened. I have said this before that Jack Grealish staying was absolutely huge. Not only for the confidence of the players but for other players wanting to come to the club.
“You are seeing the effect that has had. They are playing with a tremendous amount of confidence, and as long as that continues, I can see them comfortably getting into the top 10. Why shouldn’t they put it in their minds that they can make the top six? There is no reason why they cannot.
“The big test will come when they have a couple of bad results. If and when that happens. That’ll be a sign of how far they can go.”
Villa are showing the rest of the league that they mean business with their forward-thinking and vibrant side.
The best thing about Smith’s squad is that he has a handful of players who are at an age where they are growing as footballers and they can reach any heights they wish.
From the likes of Douglas Luiz and Ezri Konsa, both 22, who have been Villa’s best two players since football restarted, they have some serious talents on their books.
The underrated duo John McGinn and Trezeguet can also be added to that list, as can summer signings Ollie Watkins and Matty Cash, with the ball-carrying duo of Ross Barkley and Jack Grealish providing the magic.
