Lucas Moura has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he’s genuinely over the moon about the club’s acquisition of Carlos Vinicius.
Spurs have signed the towering hitman on a season-long loan from Benfica.
Vinicius, who stands at 6’3, scored 24 goals for the Portuguese giants last season and should represent a quality plan-b option to Tottenham striker Harry Kane this season.
Prior to signing the big man, it had been three years since the North Londoners last spent money on a number nine – Fernando Llorente in 2017 being the last centre-forward to come in.
And Lucas, who is also Brazilian, has admitted that he’s just ‘so happy’ to have his compatriot at Hotspur Way with him.
The former PSG winger, a £25 million signing in 2018, said: “I can joke with him about the things we speak about in Brazil. So, I’m very happy.
“Carlos is a great player, for sure. He will help us a lot. He’s a very humble guy, a very simple guy, and I’m so happy for him. He’s a very good player, a player we were missing in the squad, and for sure he will help. I’m so happy for him because he deserves it. He had such a good season with Benfica. Let’s help him now, and he will be good for us.”
Tottenham resume their Premier League season with a visit of West Ham United next week.
It’s poised to be Gareth Bale’s first match since returning to North London, and naturally that’s where the headlines are going to be, but it could also be Vinicius’s debut, too.
