Well, Arsenal aren’t heading stateside after all.
The Gunners were due to fly out to the USA later this week to take part in the Florida Cup.
Arsenal were gearing up to face Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly and potentially Everton after that.
But the North Londoners confirmed a little past midnight this morning that they have cancelled their tour and pulled out of the competition due to confirmed coronavirus cases.
In the statement, Arsenal did not clarify whether the cases were among the players, simply claiming that the infected ‘members of staff’ were self-isolating in their homes.
The club also apologised to supporters and here’s how some responded to the news on Twitter:
As per the statement, Arsenal added that they were making alternatives plans but it remains to be seen if another pre-season trip can be arranged on short notice.
Next month, Mikel Arteta’s side, who kick off their Premier League campaign against Brentford on August 13, will be back in London anyway for a pre-season competition with Chelsea and neighbours Tottenham Hotspur.
