Neil Lennon has admitted that he’s ‘sick’ of seeing Celtic make the same fatal defensive errors that Hatem Elhamed made last night.

The Hoops lost 2-1 to Hungarian minnows Ferencvaros at Parkhead on Wednesday.

In doing so, Celtic have bowed out of the Champions League in only the second round of qualifiers, ruining the potential of a £30 million windfall.

Lennon’s side had 70 percent possession and 28 shots but Tokmac Nguen’s winner against the run of play on 75 minutes consigned the Bhoys to their earliest exit from this competition in 15 years.

The Israel defender, signed by Head of Recruitment Nick Hammond last summer, allowed a dropping ball to bounce and Nguen wound up ghosting past him and squeezing home the winner from a tight angle.

It isn’t the first time that defensive errors have undermined Lennon’s side since the Irishman returned to Glasgow in February of 2019.

And Lennon has refused to sugarcoat Elhamed’s mistake.

He told Celtic’s official Twitter: “It’s just a basic mistake that I’m sick of seeing, basic defensive mistakes. We did the same against Copenhagen when we’re on top. Sometimes you can’t legislate for it. He’s in the right position. All he has to do is deal with it and he doesn’t.”

Celtic must dust themselves down and prepare for Sunday’s visit of Motherwell.

Last night was a horrible result, but the primary goal of this season was to win a 10th successive Premiership title.

And with a six-point deficit to Rangers – who have played two games more – the Bhoys can’t drop any points.
