Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has revealed to the Peter Crouch podcast that he accidentally blasted Marcelo Bielsa in the face with the ball in training.
Bamford has shown his finishing ability this term, and Bielsa apparently decided to stand in goal at Thorp Arch while the Leeds players were practicing their volleys.
Unfortunately for Bamford he hadn’t spotted his manager standing in the net.
And when he smashed a left-footed volley goalwards disaster struck.
“There was one time this season where we were doing a crossing drill and he always positions himself in an awkward place,” Bamford recalls.
“The ball has come in and I’ve connected with it so sweetly on my left foot and it’s near the top corner, and he’s stood right inside the goal.
“I’ve not seen him and I’m not joking it’s come flush off the bridge of his nose. All I’ve seen is his glasses go flying about 10 metres and him holding his nose.

“He’s walked off holding his nose and I was like ‘sorry, sorry, sorry’.
“He’s gone ‘it’s nothing’. He’s walked past us about five minutes later to go and see the physio and he’s got a big cut on his nose.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed when he’s doing an interview he’s using the same glasses and they’re not straight, they’re wonky. I feel bad, I should really get him a new pair but I’m scared to bring it up again.”
Thankfully for Bamford, it doesn’t seem like Bielsa has held any grudges after the incident.
Bamford continues to start regularly for Leeds, with Bielsa clearly a huge admirer of the English striker.
Bielsa’s trust in Bamford has really been vindicated this season, as the Leeds striker has blasted in 14 goals to put him among the Premier League’s top goalscorers.
Bamford is now on the verge of England’s squad ahead of the European Championships, and will surely be hoping to finish the season strongly to try and sneak a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
