Tim Sherwood has claimed that he is ‘really pleased’ for Matt Doherty following Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Everton on Monday night, as he told Premier League Productions (07/03/22 at 10:05 pm).

The former Spurs boss claimed that Doherty provided a ‘tremendous Michael Carrick-like ball’ for Harry Kane’s second of the night.

Previously, Doherty has struggled in north London and many have questioned whether he has a future at the club.

When the man you thrived under the most – Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves – can’t get the best out of you and isn’t playing you, then you know there are problems.

But, in recent matches, Doherty has picked it up, as Sherwood briefly praised him for his assist for Harry Kane’s second goal yesterday.

“The next goal (Kane’s second) was just incredible,” said Sherwood. “An incredible finish from the best striker in the Premier League, at the moment. He’s had a bit of a barren spell.

“For Doherty, really pleased for him as well, that’s a tremendous Michael Carrick-like ball. Over the top and he just lets it drop onto his left foot. The timing is fantastic.”

It has only been a few games, but Doherty will be hoping this is a change in tide for him.

He’s not the only player at Spurs that has struggled this season and seen his future being questioned.

But, under Antonio Conte, who is notorious for getting the best out of players, the Irishman will feel he can now head towards more positive heights.

The best thing about Doherty, as he proved at Wolves, is that if he can get his engine going, then he can also cause havoc in the final third because of his attacking quality.
